Floor Finish

What percentage of your floors have the following finish?

Carpet, Acrylic/Nylon
A heavy acrylic or nylon woven fabric attached to a rubber or burlap like backing.  It is attached to the floor either by an adhesive, or by nailing strips located along the perimeter of the room.

Carpet, Custom Acrylic/Nylon
A heavy acrylic or nylon woven fabric attached to a rubber or burlap like backing.  It is attached to the floor either by an adhesive, or by nailing strips located along the perimeter of the room.  Where standard wall-to-wall carpet weights between 26 and 28 oz per square foot, custom carpet is much plusher, weighing approximately 35 oz per square foot. Custom carpeting may also incorporate more than one carpet color and type in the room for boarders and special patterns. These pieces are all patched together to form one wall-to-wall carpet.

Carpet, Wool/Berber
A heavy wool or berber woven fabric attached to a rubber or burlap like backing.  It is attached to the floor either by an adhesive, or by nailing strips located along the perimeter of the room.  Wool or Berber carpeting has a very dense weave with very short fibers that makes it very durable. This carpeting is generally an upgrade or found in higher end homes.

Carpet over Hardwood, Acrylic/Nylon
A heavy acrylic or nylon woven fabric attached to a rubber or burlap like backing.  It is attached to the floor either by an adhesive, or by nailing strips located along the perimeter of the room. This carpeting also includes the additional cost of having a hardwood floor under the carpeting.  This is typically found in older homes where the original floors are hardwood, then were carpeted over.

Hardwood flooring can be manufactured from any commercially available species of wood. Board sizes vary and the installation of the hardwood floor depends upon the board size. An average grade of hardwood flooring has been used.

Laminated Wood Flooring
Tongue and groove style interlocking wood flooring system that floats over the existing subfloor on top of a pad, similar to carpet. The flooring is manufactured in planks, tiles, blocks and designer feature squares that consist of several layers or sheets bonded together with adhesive under pressure and a wear-resistant decorative surface made of resin-based melamine.

Parquet
Inlaid wood flooring, usually set in simple geometric patterns, installed over wood joists and sheathing or a concrete slab.

Plank
Lumber that is two or more inches thick and six or more inches wide and laid flat over a wood frame and sheathing or a concrete slab.

Tile, Ceramic
A thin, flat piece of fired clay or glazed porcelain tile that is applied over wood joists and sheathing, or a concrete slab with cement or other adhesive and grouted joints.  Normally used for its durability, easiness to clean, and relatively waterproof finish.  Ceramic tile comes in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and finishes. Cost represents an average of these styles.

Tile, Ceramic, Imported
A thin, high-quality, flat piece of fired clay or imported glazed porcelain tile that is applied over wood joists and sheathing, or a concrete slab with cement or other adhesive and grouted joints. Normally used for its durability, easiness to clean, and relatively waterproof finish.  Ceramic tile comes in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and finishes. Concrete, Stamped/Textured
A concrete flooring system that is stamped or textured so that it takes on the appearance of tile, stone, or other floor material. The concrete can also be tinted to achieve a desired color.
